Growing up on a farm near Moree in Northwest NSW, Sarah has always had a love of rural and regional communities. While at school, Sarah dreamed of becoming a vet but it was a careers advisor who suggested that medicine might be a more rewarding career for her.

After a last-minute change of heart, Sarah went on to study medicine at the University of Adelaide. She remembers spending summers in rural clinical schools and placements in regional and remote communities, and she was in her element. Before she’d graduated, Sarah knew that Rural Medicine was for her. She loved the challenge and opportunity to make a meaningful contribution in a small community.

Now, based in Goondiwindi QLD with her husband and three boys aged 3.5, 5 and 6, Sarah works at the Goondiwindi Medical Centre as a senior GP, at an outreach service for the Aboriginal community of Boggabilla and at the Goondiwindi Hospital in the Emergency and Obstetrics departments. She also teaches medical students at the UQ Rural Clinical School.

After several busy years both personally and professionally, Sarah had firmly decided that 2019 was going to be her year of saying ‘no’ to new projects. But when her sister Liz approached her with the idea for Family HQ, Sarah knew it was a no-brainer! She said yes without hesitation and over the next 14 months worked with Liz to develop the ultimate health management app for busy families.

Sarah has naturally gravitated towards the design, business and marketing side of Family HQ. She has a keen eye for detail and uses her professional experience to ensure Family HQ meets the needs of modern families while liaising with other health practitioners to ensure the most up-to-date guidelines are being followed.

When she’s not working, teaching, managing the local general practice or developing Family HQ, Sarah loves family time with her boys, some quiet time in the garden, running, cycling, travel and enjoying a (well-deserved!) glass of wine. Although her husband jokes that she’s a fiery redhead, Sarah insists that she’s just very passionate about the things that matter!
